Fury boils its way up my spine. Derek Walton. Her ex is in her face, looming over her. I don’t like the idea of any man other than me that close to my wife, and I don’t care the reason.

Wild eyes glued to me, he straightens, taking a step back, but not far enough nor good enough for me. I stride to where they stand, clenching my fists as tightly as my jaw.

The pupils of his beady eyes flare, and he takes another step back. This time, he widens his stance and raises his head so his pointy chin juts out.

“Step aside and let her pass.” I lean into him and growl, “Or better yet, get lost.”

The asshole sneers, pulling at the collar of his shirt and pumping out his chest as if that makes him more of a man. He can’t help himself and steals another glance at Addie.

That’s when I see it, the hurt with a touch of anger—or is it wounded pride—in the man’s eyes. He storms away and she watches me, her expression more agitated now.

Fucking hell.

Don’t tell me he’s jealous or worse, going to make things difficult for us. And how does Addie feel about her ex? Does she still have feelings for him? Is she pissed I interrupted their little gathering?

“You all right?” My voice is rougher than I intend.

“Fine.” She nods curtly. “I had it handled.” Her slender hand runs absent-mindedly along the bodice of her dress, and I don’t miss the slight tremble to her fingers.

“No doubt you did. But as your husband, it’s my duty to protect you.” I hold up a hand before she steamrolls me. “Or to have your back when you’re sparring.”

“Well, thank you.” Her cheeks darken to a rosy red, and she avoids my gaze, casting her eyes down the darkened hallway in the direction of the dining room. “We should get back.”

“Am I going to have to worry about him?” I inch closer, breathing in her sweet scent.

“What? Derek?” Her voice wavers as if she isn’t so sure. “No. Not at all. You’re not jealous are you, Brooks?”

“No, darlin’.” I now press against her. Her firm tits poke into my chest, and her warm, sweet breath lingers at the base of my throat. “I’m not jealous, and do you want to know why?”

My forearms rest against the wall on either side of her head, caging her in. Addie’s pupils dilate, and her lips form a small, tantalizing ‘O’. My balls twitch as I imagine her mouth wrapped around my cock.

Aw, hell, now isn’t the time.

“Why?” It’s a coy whisper and she bats her lashes. I can’t tell if it’s an act or if she’s as turned on as I am.
